Description

The female characters of Arkham City. Oracle is missing, though. I left her out since we never see her, but she is a pretty important character.

I got into a discussion with someone about Arkham City from a feminist standpoint, and I'm a bit on the fence about it.
After all, most characters aren't written to be that deep in the game, male or female, but pretty much all the female characters are very sexualised.

Someone like Catwoman should be sexy, true, but the writers in general have such problems with writing a sexually confident woman who is using her sexuality, and who is not objectified and/or a jerk. I can buy that Catwoman is a bitch, but she also comes off as dumb in the game. Pissing off the plant-lady with superpowers for no good reason and ingeneral being a jerk to her? Not smart.

Poison Ivy is actually handled pretty well in Arkham City (apart from her character design). She basically just wants to be left alone, and while she does brainwash men to do her bidding, that comes off more as her considering humans to be just tools for her, than some weird sexual thing.

Harley is depicted as a more equal to Joker than many other versions do, and she does act pretty effectively as a gang boss on her own, but we never really get much into her character and her relationship with Joker. This is especially noticeable in the DLC 'Harley Quinn's revenge', that just glosses over what has happened to her.
Also I just dislike the way she dresses.
Would it kill you to dress a bit cuter or colourful?

Talia is the worst of them all.
She is only defined through her connection to men; her dad, and Batman.
Harley might be totally dependant on Joker, but at least there's depiction of why she is the way she is.
Talia, though...
Why is she doing anything? What is her relationship with her dad? I don't know. We are told she is in love with Batman, but I'm not buying it. It's pretty difficult to be invested in it when you're just told they had a thing, or something.

Oracle is actually the retired Batgirl. When Batgirl went on a mission she got shot in the back and paralized from the waist down so she decided to stay in the Bat Cave and work the computers for Batman because of her super memory she is very helpful in situations so once she learns something new she won't forget it.
